WRA, Inc. is excited to announce the addition of Jason Mills as Senior Restoration Contractor for its subsidiary company WRA Landscape Restoration Inc. Mr. Mills’ leadership and expertise in vegetation management and fire ecology in California signifies strategic growth for the company’s support of restoration and resiliency work for public and private clients.

As a restoration and fire ecologist, licensed California tree/landscape contractor, certified arborist, and Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner, Mr. Mills brings more than 20 years of experience in the field through managing crews for land management agencies, non-profits, and private restoration groups. Seeing this work done effectively led him to graduate academic research on the role of prescribed (Rx) fire in California grasslands, with course work in ecology and pyrogeography.

“I am really excited to have Jason as part of our team,” said Geoff Smick, Chief Executive Officer of WRA, Inc. “He is driven and passionate about supporting our communities by implementing ecologically sensitive resiliency projects. His unique set of expertise combined with his hands-on leadership style will further expand our restoration and fire resiliency implementation service line offerings for our project partners.”

With a diverse range of natural resource management experience, spanning from native plant propagation, planting design, and eco-friendly, firewise landscaping to vegetation management, invasive species control, and fuel reduction in a wide variety of habitats throughout northern California, Mr. Mills’ ecological approach brings successful delivery of restoration implementation and demonstrated solutions to meeting multifaceted project goals for landowners in sensitive habitats.

“In this new era of increasing fire frequency, the need to understand how to manage vegetation properly is more important than ever if we are to protect our communities, fire responders, the environment, and the climate of California,” said Mr. Mills.

Mr. Mills earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Analysis & Policy from Boston University and a Master’s in Biogeography with distinction from the California State University, Chico. In addition, he is also a Certified Wildland Firefighter I-II, Certified Advanced Sawyer III and Chipper, and Certified Wilderness First Responder. Mr. Mills serves on the steering committee of the Bay Area Prescribed Fire Council, is chair of the steering committee for the Sonoma County Forest Conservation Working Group, and is a member of numerous ecological and restoration organizations including the California Botanical Society, California Invasive Plant Council, California Native Plant Society, Northern California Botanists, and Society for Ecological Restoration.
