WRA Supports The Wildlife Society-Western Section Annual Meeting 2026

WRA is honored to again sponsor the Annual Meeting of The Wildlife Society-Western Section February 2-7, 2024 in Monterey, California. This year’s theme is “Success: A Journey, Not a Destination”. WRA experts are excited for this year’s program and you can find them throughout the week chairing sessions, presenting on a wide variety of topics, and at our exhibitor table!
Wednesday, February 4
- Marisa Ishimatsu and Darwin Mayhew will co-present in the Innovative Techniques session at 2:25 pm, “Burrow Excavations: An Updated Review of a Common Take Avoidance Measure For Federally Threatened California Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma californiense)”.
Thursday, February 5
- Katie Smith, PhD will present in the Ecology and Conservation of Small Mammals session at 9:45 am, “An Investigation of Demographics of the Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse Throughout the Species Range and Related Conservation and Management Implications”. Katie will also Chair the History of Mammals session starting at 1:30 pm.
- Rob Schell will present in the Stakeholders and Policy session at 10:50 am, “A tale of two ponds. How a localized extirpation morphed into a regional recovery action for CRLF in Solano County”.
- Katie Smith and Carla Angulo are co-authors on the presentation by Christian Valdes in the History of Mammals session at 2:55 pm, “Habitat Use in a Highly Invaded Marsh: Do salt marsh harvest mice prefer invasive plant species over pickleweed?”
- Carla Angulo will present in the Natural History of Mammals session at 3:05 pm, “Best Practices in Exclusion Fencing for Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse”.
Poster Session
- Katie Smith and Carla Angulo are co-authors on the poster by Deepshika Shankar, “Novel Foraging Behaviors of Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse and Competitors”.
