WRA Landscape Restoration Supports Stewardship at Audubon Canyon Ranch

At WRA, relationships matter! When our client, Audubon Canyon Ranch, was faced with climate-related impacts, we were there to lend a helping hand.

The WRA Landscape Restoration (WRA-LR) crew recently teamed up with Audubon Canyon Ranch to tackle post-storm clean-up and wildfire resilience efforts across three preserves. Working side-by-side with experienced preserve staff, our crew members not only made a tangible impact on the land but also gained invaluable, hands-on training—boosting their skills and expertise in the field!

We’re beyond grateful for our continued partnership with Audubon Canyon Ranch and the chance to support the stewardship of these important landscapes. Here’s to teamwork, resilience, and a shared commitment to protecting our natural world!

Cypress Grove – Storm Damage Recovery

WRA-LR crew members supported the Cypress Grove Preserve staff with storm debris clean-up following a 20-year high tidal surge influenced by a large King Tide event that coincided with a significant storm of heavy rains and high winds. WRA-LR supported the cleaning of beach areas and trails and returned watercraft including canoes and kayaks to the boathouse storage area. The recovery efforts were vital to once again welcome education groups to explore the natural beauty of the Preserve.

Modini Preserve – Wildfire Fuels Management

WRA-LR crew members helped Modini Preserve staff manage fuel loads by removing dead trees and cutting up dead, woody debris on the ground. WRA-LR crews also constructed burn piles in open areas away from mature trees and sensitive areas. By actively managing fuel loads, the goal is to reduce potential wildfire risk and potential damage to property, infrastructure, and habitats.

Bouverie Preserve – Wildfire Fuels Management

WRA-LR helped Bouverie Preserve staff manage vegetation impacted by the 2017 Nuns Fire by thinning dense resprouts around the base of desired species of mature trees to prepare for prescribed burning. WRA-LR crews also created 4’ x 4’ burn piles for future burning. These forest management techniques will help improve the health of the Preserve’s natural habitat and reduce the risk of wildfires.

Audubon Canyon Ranch is a non-profit environmental conservation and education organization founded in 1962 that stewards a system of nature preserves totaling 5,000 acres across 26 properties in Marin, Sonoma, and Lake counties.
