Our Projects

For three years, WRA Landscape Restoration supported the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) in providing invasive plant control work in ecologically sensitive native grassland communities. WRA tracked all work performed using the Cal Flora Observer Pro mobile application.

WRA worked closely with MMWD’s vegetation staff and volunteers of the non-profit OneTam organization to map and control occurrences of specific invasive plant species whose proliferation threatens stands of rare plants and native grassland communities. Primary targeted species include:

• Hardinggrass (Phalaris aquatica) invading Bathtub Gap, a 20-acre meadow containing the endangered plant (Eriogonum luteolum var. caninum) Tiburon buckwheat.
• Barbed goatgrass (Aegilops triuncialis) invading serpentine grasslands in the Pine Mountain and Azalea Hill areas that contain populations of 10 rare plant species.
• Cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) invading the grassland-chaparral complex in the vicinity of Yolanda Trail, Kent Lake, and the Mill Valley Air Force Base on Mount Tamalpais.

Additional controlled species included:

• Yellow starthistle (Centaurea solstitialis)
• Medusa head (Elymus caput-medusae)
• Upright veldt grass (Ehrharta erecta)
• Velvet grass (Holcus lanatus)
• Dallis grass (Paspalum dilatatum)
• Pampas grass (Cortaderia jubata)
