WRA Staff Spotlight: Scott Yarger Celebrates 10 Years at WRA
Scott Yarger is a biologist/arborist celebrating a career milestone of 10 years at WRA!
To help commemorate this occasion, we asked Scott to share some highlights with us. He is an ISA-Certified Arborist with over a decade of experience in arboriculture and vegetation management. Scott’s areas of expertise include biological resources assessment, wetland delineation, vegetation monitoring and mapping, including invasive weed monitoring and management plans, and special-status plant surveys. He also manages long-term monitoring and reporting efforts for conservation banks and endangered species preserves that WRA manages.
What is your favorite part about working at WRA?
Scott: My favorite part about working at WRA is the never-ending room to learn, grow, and take on new challenges, and the encouragement to pursue and continue your education in your chosen specialty in our field. This job and company have afforded me the opportunity to pursue my passion in California botany, doing rare plant surveys across the state, taking courses, attending conferences, and continuing my education in plants.
What project that you have worked on at WRA is most memorable and why?
Scott: Surveying the Guenoc Ranch for rare plants, wetlands, and vegetation communities during the initial surveys in 2018 was the most memorable project I have worked on. The many miles surveyed in rough terrain and challenging heat with a great crew of botanists, documenting over 500 plant species and over 25 rare plant species in this botanic diversity hotspot is the highlight of my career thus far. The relationships forged with my fellow surveyors are very special and strong.
