Hamlin Nature Park Open Space Master Plan

Home  /  Projects   /   Hamlin Nature Park Open Space Master Plan

The City acquired this 20-acre parcel in 2020 with support from the John Muir Land Trust. Known locally as the “Batwing Property,” the site is located within a residential neighborhood and was purchased to provide new public open space. The property presents several challenges, including steep slopes, limited access, and a history of landslides.

WRA is developing an Open Space Master Plan for the new Nature Park to balance public access, ecological restoration, and wildfire risk reduction. The plan includes integrating existing and new hiking trails, restoring riparian areas, and recommending resource management strategies to enhance ecological function across the property. WRA is leading a community outreach process to align trail alignments and park amenities with public priorities while addressing site constraints.

As part of the planning effort, WRA is preparing 30% design drawings for new trail segments and leading the preparation of an Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) under CEQA.
