WRA congratulates the City of San Rafael on the recent ribbon-cutting of the newly enhanced Pickleweed Park which marks a major investment in accessible, sustainable, and year-round recreation for the Canal District community.

The park now features an all-weather soccer field, a new basketball court, upgraded pathways, and community gathering spaces. Click on the gallery images to see some of the new amenities!

Portions of the project are located within San Francisco Bay Conservation & Development Commission’s (BCDC) “Shoreline Band”, necessitating BCDC authorization. WRA oversaw the project’s BCDC permitting process, including significant coordination with project partners BKF Engineers and Gates Studio to distill the project design to streamline BCDC’s permitting process. WRA also helped the City obtain project funding from California State Parks via the Land and Water Conservation Fund and navigate environmental constraints associated with installing this new park adjacent to important tidal marsh habitat.

We’re proud to have helped bring this revitalized community space to life. Read more on the City’s project webpage. To learn more about WRA’s parks and open space work, visit our market page.
